Jotunheimen National Park | Home of the Giants

Jotunheimen has majestic mountain nature with high peaks, glaciers, peculiar rivers and lakes, traces of the hunting culture, intact farm landscape and rich flora where multiple plants reach their height record. In Jotunheimen you can find the most powerful and highest summits of Norway, of which Galdhøpiggen with its 2469 m above sea level rises highest.

Jotunheimen is one of the most popular areas for summit tours and hiking. About 300 km routes are T-marked, and you can stay at a number of attended as well as unattended tourist huts both in and outside the National Park. Experience hut to hut epics on well-marked trails, summit tours, glacier walking, peak rangling, climbing and summer skiing suited both for cross-country and alpine skiers. If you don’t like hiking alone, you can hire a mountain guide. Several activity companies and trekking associations offer organised tours in the National Park.  

Facts
The area of Jotunheimen National Park var established in 1980, and is approximately 1.151 km2.

The purpose of the park is to protect wild, distinctive, beautiful and basically undisturbed landscape with flora and fauna on the transition from eastern to western mountain nature. Agriculture, tourism, hunting and fishing, education and research will it be possibilities for within certain limits in the National Park.
