Kalhovd lies on the east bank of the Kalhovd Fjord, at the eastern rim of the Hardanger Plateau and is a natural gateway to the plateau.
The lodge is staffed at Easter and in summer, has 85 bunks, a sauna, showers, homemade food and a cosy atmosphere. Out of season, Kalhovd has no-service lodgings in a cabin next to the main lodge. It has three two-bunk rooms, a fireplace, a kitchen and a privy, and is accessible using the DNT cabin key.
In summer, you can drive to the lodge. In high season, there's a bus service between Kalhovd and Rjukan. In winter, the road is closed at Steinsbøle about 17 km to the east. There's a staked route along the closed road. Transport to the lodge can be booked in periods when it is staffed.
