We set out with double kayaks from Longyearbyen, aiming for Reveneset at the very end of Adventfjorden. Wearing dry suits we can safely cross the fjord and paddle along the abandoned mining communities Hiorthamn and Advent City. After seven kilometres of paddling among Svalbard many seabirds we carry the kayaks on shore and change into hiking boots, now heading to Forkastningsfjellet.
The hike up is relatively easy and we don't have to climb more than 400 meters before we reach the top of the ridge. The mountain is the last before the mighty Ice.fjord is opening up and offers a spectacular view different than the mountains around Longyearbyen. In good weather, we may see whales and seals?
After a hot lunch and something to drink, we start on the return journey. It will be a long day and it will be a lot of paddling each way.
Kayaking Experience from earlier is an advantage but not a necessity. The trip can be challenging and it is recommended to be in good physical shape. If it is very windy we have the opportunity of carrying the kayaks on land and hike along the fjord before climbing Forkastningsfjellet.
On request the trip can be arranged as an overnight trip with a tent camp under Forkastningsfjellet.
