To rent a single kayak, you must have a Våttkort certificate. A Våttkort or previous kayaking experience is not required to rent a double kayak.

Introductory course and Våttkort

If you do not have a Våttkort, Sognefjord Active offers a four-hour introductory course on request.

The course provides a basic introduction to using a sea kayak and paddling equipment. Through practical exercises, you will learn:

how to use a kayak, paddle, spray skirt and life jacket

how to lift, carry and launch a kayak

forward and backward paddling

how to stop and turn the kayak

correct sitting position and basic paddling techniques

how to safely exit the kayak if you capsize

how to get ashore

basic kayaking safety

local paddling conditions

After completing the course, you will receive the Våttkort Introkurs Hav certificate, issued by the Norwegian Canoe Association (Norges Padleforbund). The certificate documents that you have completed basic sea kayaking training.

Kayak and necessary paddling equipment are included in the course.
