Kleven is an old harbor with beautiful wooden houses right down to the water's edge.

Kleven and Gismerøya in Mandal represent a living cultural heritage from the sailing ship era and serve as a hub for dynamic development in modern shipbuilding. Kleven was one of Northern Europe's most important ports for sailing ships, and the surrounding area is still characterized by old wooden houses and boathouses from this period.



On Gismerøya, which today functions as an industrial area, one of Norway's largest ship repair yards from the sailing ship era was located. Today, Umoe Mandal AS continues this proud tradition. Founded in 1988, the company specializes in building high-speed vessels and structures in fiber-reinforced plastic composites, serving both civilian and military markets nationally and internationally.



The area around Kleven and Gismerøya still retains its historical charm, with well-preserved wooden houses and an atmosphere reminiscent of past maritime activity. At the same time, it is a vibrant industrial area that combines tradition with modern technology. Visitors have the opportunity to explore the historic harbor of Kleven and gain a unique insight into the area's rich maritime heritage.
