Klimapark 2469 is an outdoor experience area located at 1,800 meters above sea level, at the foot of Galdhøpiggen in Jotunheimen. Here you can, among other things, join a tour to a spectacular ice tunnel—70 meters in under the ice—7,000 years back in time—and learn about hunting history, climate change, thawing permafrost, melting snowdrifts, and the animals and plants that survive in the harsh mountains.

At the foot of Galdhøpiggen lies a 375-square-meter hand-carved ice tunnel filled with ice sculptures and archaeological treasures. The ice tunnel is designed and lit by artist and sculptor Peder Istad, and is cut out and shaped by hand.

Every day from mid-June until September, you can join a visit inside the ice. On the way to the tunnel, there is an adapted walkway and information stations where you learn about hunting history, climate change, thawing permafrost, melting snowdrifts, and the animals and plants that survive in the harsh mountains.

About the tour:
The tour in Klimapark is an easy walk with a nature guide who talks about mountains and climate in an outdoor experience area 1,850 meters above sea level—topped off with a guided visit to the fascinating ice tunnel in Juvfonne. See ice layers that are up to 7,000 years old, experience the permafrost that is thawing, the snowdrift that is melting, and be captivated by the discoveries from the snowdrift displayed in the ice: ancient tools, weapons, skis, and clothing that have been found in the mountains in recent years as climate change melts snow from ancient times.

The tunnel is carved into the ice with passages and rooms and even includes a cinema hall. The nature guide adapts the information to the group, making the tour exciting and educational for children as well. The guided tour takes about 2.5 hours in total. Note that the ice tunnel is only accessible together with a nature guide on a guided tour.
