Krokstrand is located in the municipality of Rana and is a great starting point for active outdoor activities and mountain walks in the surrounding area. It is located in a scenic area by the E6 on the south side of Saltfjellet 17 km. south of the Arctic Circle and 60 km. north of Mo i Rana. Bring your caravan, or use the campsite and they also offer room rental.
The area around Krokstrand is known for its beautiful pine forest and dry climate. Krokstrand is a very good starting point for mountain tours all year round. The area borders on Saltfjellet / Svartisen National Park in the north and west. In addition, there are great hiking areas with good hunting and fishing opportunities eastwards towards Sweden.
There are nice opportunities for short and long walks. Among other things, you will find nice hiking trails in the surrounding area around Krokstrand. Up towards Saltfjellet is Bolnatinden, the Arctic Circle Center, cycling on the old road over Saltfjellet and Nasa Silver Mine (cultural monuments) fine starting point for fine nature experiences.
With Virvassdalen as a starting point you go to Virvatnet and Blereksvassdraget you can go fishing. In Virvassdalen there is also the possibility of touring the Andfjelltoppen. Cycling with a mountain bike in the Virvass Valley will also be recommended.
With Storvoll as a starting point you can head inland to Stormdalen, which is a valley and is a side valley to Dunderlandsdalen. This mountain valley has great diversity of species and several interesting cultural monuments, including the mountain farms Bredek, Nordre and Søndre Stormdalen farm and Granneset. The valley is located in Saltfjellet-Svartisen National Park.
There is also the possibility to start or stop at Krokstrand in connection with a several day hikes in Saltfjellet National Park, here is the widespread paths that is easy to follow. Among other things you can start at Saltfjellet and end at Storvoll, the trip will take about 3 days. Hiking to and from the wind farm with accommodation in Virvatnet will take 3 days. A walk to Ammarnes will take 5 days.
At Krokstrand there is a caravan site with year-round pitches for 40 wagons. Own service building with shower and toilets. Campsite with 14 simple summer cabins and 40 motorhome / caravan spaces. Own service building with washing machine and kitchen.
