Kvelia Selected Cultural Landscape
Kvelia Selected Cultural Landscape is a mountain village in Lierne with agriculture and forestry as its main industry. Kvelia UKL is one of 46 especially valuable cultural landscapes in Norway, selected by the government. The area has both cultural monuments and biological values that show long-term use.
Cultural heritgae
Kvelia UKL has many cultural heritage remnants, from old iron mining and trapping. Several burial grounds indicate settlement in Kvelia as far back as the Iron Age.
Nature and landscape
The Kulturlandskapet in Kvelia has several endagered habitat types and species. Among other things, several traditional hayfield. At Oppgården in Kvelia you will find one of the largest and best-preserved hayfield in Trøndelag.
There are several hiking trails in the area, and historical guiding is available.
