Landeskogen Kunstsanatorium is an art and cultural centre located in the historic Landeskogen Sanatorium in Grendi in Setesdal. Here, art production, mediation and cultural heritage come together in an integrated environment where visitors, artists and history meet.
«Opening May 30, 2026»
The art centre has five main areas of activity:
Printmaking Workshop
The printmaking workshop forms the core of the centre's activities. Work is carried out using traditional, pre-digital printmaking techniques such as relief printing, intaglio and lithography. The workshop is equipped for professional art production and provides space for concentration, precision and a deep understanding of materials. Through guided tours, courses and events, visitors gain insight into the working processes and can experience how a print develops from plate or stone to finished artwork.
Gallery
The gallery presents changing exhibitions with a primary focus on printmaking and related artistic practices. The exhibition programme includes both contemporary artists and historical perspectives, encouraging reflection and dialogue. The gallery serves as a platform where visitors encounter new works, new voices and diverse approaches to printmaking as an art form.
Permanent Art Collections
The art centre maintains permanent collections that provide continuity and depth. These collections highlight the development of printmaking, its technical diversity and its significance within art history. They allow visitors to experience artworks over time and to explore connections between tradition and contemporary practice.
Printing Museum
The printing museum documents and communicates the history of printing as both craft and cultural heritage. Machines, presses, type and other equipment used in pre-digital production processes are presented here. The museum offers insight into how text and images were reproduced before the digital revolution and demonstrates the technical and societal importance of the printing trade.
Residency Programme
Through its residency programme, artists are invited to live and work on site for shorter or longer periods. They are given access to the workshop facilities, a professional environment and quiet surroundings that support concentration and artistic development. The presence of visiting artists ensures continuous activity within the building and creates a dynamic meeting point between artistic production and the public.
Landeskogen Kunstsanatorium is a place for slow art, craft-based knowledge and in-depth engagement. In dialogue with the nature and history of Setesdal, the centre offers an experience where art is not only exhibited, but also created and shared.
