The cheeses from Langesund Ostemakeri have become very popular in a short time. Behind every cheese produced here, there is a good deal of craftmanship.

Langesund Ostemakeri produces and sells their own local cheeses in the cheese factory in the center of the coastal town of Langesund. Vaiva and Øyvind have operated here since 2017. They have their own dairy, production premises, storage and a shop in the same apartment building.

The cheeses from Langesund Ostemakeri have become very popular in a short time. In the outlet you can buy their cheeses, as well as natural accessories for the taste experience the cheeses provide such as biscuits, bread, scones, cheese donuts and jams. It is not uncommon for customers to come on a day trip to buy cheese donuts.

It has become a tradition that the cheese factory closes a little before Christmas with a poster at Christmas: -We are sold out. Welcome again next year.

The cheeses are made by hand
Behind every cheese, which is produced exclusively here, is a good deal of handicraft. The cheeses are made by hand based on local milk from Bamble.
For cheese connoisseurs, it is nice to know that the production method of Langesund Ostemakeri is based on long-term pasteurization at a low temperature that preserves as much of the nutrients in the good milk as possible.

- The milk tastes as good as what the cows eat, says Øyvind and Vaiva. Then it is important to take care of the raw materials and further process this in the cheeses. The cheeses should give associations to the taste of the coast, preferably with short-distance flavors such as spring onions and sea salt.

The story of the cheesemakers
The story of the cheesemakers in Langesund started on the high mountains. Here Vaiva and Øyvind worked at a local dairy in Valdres. They found the tone and eventually came the dream of starting their own cheese factory with their own cheese series. In 2017, they are in place in Langesund, Øyvind's childhood town, and start production with their own recipes.
