Light Backpack Hike from Børgefjell to Okstindan
This is one of the most stunning and thrilling hikes Northern Norway has to offer, passing through border mountains and national parks, reindeer grazing areas, open plateaus, wild valleys, and massive mountain ranges. And now, you can hike it with luggage transport from cabin to cabin.
The Nordland Trekking Trail is divided into 8 sections with a total of 43 daily stages. All of them are beautiful, but many are long, challenging mountain hikes. For the first time, you now have the opportunity to hike the first daily stages of the route as a light backpack hike. This means that most of your luggage will be transported between the accommodations, along with food for each day. You can enjoy the daily stages with a light pack, carrying only what you need for the hike. You could, for example, hike with around 5 kg in your backpack instead of 15-20 kg.
However, note that even with a light pack, this is still a challenging hike. Most daily stages are between 12 and 22 kilometers long, and after 6 days of hiking, you will have covered over 100 kilometers through beautiful and rugged mountain terrain. Are you up for the challenge?
If you’re in good shape for mountain hiking, you won’t regret it! This hike takes you from the wild and beautiful Børgefjell National Park in the south to the foot of the mighty and majestic Okstindan massif in the north. You’ll hike along pristine fishing lakes, magnificent mountain formations, up steep hillsides, and down lush slopes. You’ll experience a vast and breathtaking mountain landscape bathed in the Northern Norwegian summer sun, stretching well into the evenings and nights, and feel the fresh mountain dew in the grass when you wake up the next day. You may encounter reindeer and moose, ptarmigan and golden plovers, golden eagles and rough-legged buzzards. And you’ll stay overnight in mountain farms, cabins, and lavvus.
Are you ready for the most beautiful challenge of the summer?
