The barren landscape of Røros and the temperature in the region, result in all food growing slowly and developing a truly distinctive taste. Berries, herbs and vegetables are all harvested directly from the earth resulting in pure flavor. The same distinctive flavor you find in the meat from the animals that have grazed on green pastures and mountain plateaux, as well as the fish that have lived in clear, cold water. This provides our local food products with a rich and pure flavor
These are all reasons to why we came up to the idea of having a local food safari in our region. We want you to experience the award winning produce, and the people that put their passion into making the best possible food they can.
That's why we came up with three different safaris with different themes. The tours are available from the start of July to mid August.
Every monday and thursday, you can tag along on a 5 hour trip around the lake Aursunden to experience local producers of reindeer, deer and baked goods. Learn more about this safari by clicking this link here.
On Tuesdays, you can join us to a dairy factory and a farm to taste some of their specialities such as the award winning butter, thick milk and ice cream. Learn more about the dairy and farm safari by clicking this link here.
Wednesdays and Fridays, there are a local citytour that takes you through the history of Røros. At the end of the tour, we will head down to the local microbrewery for a beer tasting and something small to eat. Learn more about the citytour safari by clicking this link here.
