At Lyngvågen Café on the beautiful Gjerdøya in Rødøy, you can enjoy delicious, homemade seafood and opt for an overnight stay, making Lyngvågen an excellent base for exploring Gjerdøya and the other islands in Rødøy.

The Café
From the old fish receiving station on Gjerdøya, local fisherman and chef Jim serves traditional seafood dishes: fish burgers, whale burgers, bacalao, and fried cod tongues, to name a few. Most of the seating is outdoors on the quayside, so dress for the weather.

Accommodation
Lyngvågen Panorama apartment is ideal for couples or families looking to explore Gjerdøya and the neighboring Rødøy islands. It offers a bedroom with two double beds, a sofa bed in the living room, and a magnificent view of the sea and the enchanting Hestmannen mountain.

Guest dock
If you arrive by boat, Lyngvågen has a 160-meter-long floating dock with ample space and access to water and electricity. There’s also a service building with toilets, showers, and laundry facilities.

Gjerøyhamn
A short boat ride across the strait from Lyngvågen takes you to Gjerøyhamn. Here, Jonny Losvik has created one of the finest gardens in Northern Norway here. You can visit the old sheriff’s farmhouse in Rødøy, now converted into a small museum, attend an art and craft exhibition in the restored barn, or just enjoy the beautiful garden. Jonny has invested an impressive amount of work and love in building and maintaining his childhood home.

Jonny and the beautiful garden at Gjerøyhamn were featured in the 2023 NRK program “Der ingen skulle tru at nokon kunne bu.” You can watch the episode here. It’s in Norwegian, but if you want you can skip to the beautiful imagery of the garden at about 18 minutes and 30 seconds into the episode.

Hiking around Gjerøy
Gjerdøya also offers well-marked hiking trails, including one to Gjerdøyfjellet. Though the mountain stands only 168 meters above sea level, it offers challenging terrains and a magnificent view of the surrounding islands.

For those keen on exploring the waters, Lyngvågen is a fantastic starting point for kayak paddling. Moreover, Lyngvågen Café can assist with boat rentals or RIB tours in the area.
