Vaset - Merket - Storefjell (approx. 55 km)
This section of Mjølkevegen is the most family-friendly and suitable for anyone who likes riding bikes. The plateau between Vaset, Stølsvidda and Golsfjellet is unique and perhaps the most beautiful cycling area in Norway with countless hiking possibilities. The route is undulating with nice gravel roads and paths, and great views towards both Jotunheimen and Hemsedalsfjella. It is easy to combine cycling along the section of Mjølkevegen with other activities like hiking, fishing or wild swimming. The route passes through active farming areas where farm animals graze freely, and it is more than likely that you will see animals grazing along the road during your trip. Langestølen Kolonial and Café is a popular stop located along Tisleiavegen. Here you can enjoy porridge and waffels made in the traditional way.
Gomobu Fjellstue and Vasetstølen are the recommended accommodations at Vaset. In addition, we recommend that you stop at Merket in Tisleidalen and then Storefjell Resort Hotel on Golsfjellet. All of the above accommodations are good starting points for many nice cycling trips, and at Merket you will also find mountain bike trails of varying degrees of difficulty. The hosts at all of these accommodations are looking forward to hosting Mjølkevegen cyclists.
Bike Bus from Oslo: 2/7, 9/7 and 16/7. On these dates there is a separate Bike Bus to Vaset. This is ideal for those who are arriving without a car and who are bringing their own bike. You can choose to take the train to Gol one way and catch the bus the other way.
This trip can be cycled in both directions or as a roundtrip for those who come with their own transport.
