Mjølkevegen Vaset-Golsfjellet

Vaset - Storefjell (approx. 35 km)

This is the most family friendly section of Mjølkevegen and suitable for anyone who likes riding a bicycle. The plateau between Vaset, Stølsvidda and Golsfjellet is unique and perhaps the most beautiful cycling area in Norway. The route leads through undulating terrain on firm gravel roads and tracks, and you can enjoy great views towards both Jotunheimen and Hemsedalsfjella. It is easy to combine cycling with other activities like hiking, fishing or swimming. The route passes through active farming areas where life stock graze freely. The hosts at the accommodations along the route are looking forward to welcoming Mjølkevegen cyclists.

Starting at Vasetstølen or Joker Vaset, the route follows Valtjednvegen uphill to Gomobobu Fjellstue and continues on the plateau to the summer farms at Valtjedsstølan (when starting at Gomobu, one is alreay on the plateau). At the Brattåsen crossing you can choose between two alternative routes: either the direct route along Gauklivegen via Gauklie to Furuset or the slightly longer route via Tyishølt and Langestølen, where you can make a stop at Langestølen Kolonial og Kafé (open during the summer and until the autumn holidays). Here you can enjoy the Norwegian specialty "rømmegrøt" (a sour cream porridge) and the traditional waffles. Both route alternatives meet again at the Furuset intersection. From here, cycle along Naustedokkvegen and cross over the dam at Tisleifjorden (there's a resting area on the dam top with a stunning view over the lake towards distant mountains) towards Oset, where you can spend the night at Oset Fjellhotell.

If you wish to continue towards Storefjell Resort Hotel, the route leads partly on tracks through open fields uphill towards the hotel which is situated just below the summit of the Storefjell mountain. Another Mjølkevegen accommodation at Golsfjellet is Kamben Høyfjellshotell. If you are bound there, continue straight along Øvre Bjødnalivegen (in stead of turning right uphill on a track towards Storefjell) and cycle on Kambegutu downhill to the hotel.

This section of Mjølkevegen can be cycled in both directions or as a two-day roundtrip, combining both route alternatives over the Stølsvidda plateau. It is also possible to cycle back to Vaset via Panoramavegen and Nøsen. In this case, from The Furuset intersection, cycle left on Tisleivegen to Langestølen and keep straight along Tisleivegen until the roads meets Panoramavegen. Now you continue on Panoramavegen past Nøsen back to Vaset. En route you find Lisjordetstølen, a traditional summer farm that welcomes visitors during July.

Bicycles can be rented at Intersport Vaset or Storefjell Resort.
If you wish for baggage transport for this section of Mjølkevegen, you can book a tour package (South Route)
