Ruten Fjellstue - Haugseter Fjellstue - Radisson BLU Resort Hotel Beitostølen (approx. 70 km)
The following route description of this stage of the Mjølkevegen assumes that participants have arrived by train to Vinstra Station and have been picked-up and driven 35 kilometers to Ruten Fjellstue in Espedalen. The more eager riders among you may wish to begin the tour from Vinstra, but please be aware that this first section is a very hilly, demanding trip. However if you choose to ride directly from Vinstra you can look forward to a warm welcome by the hosts at Ruten and being served good food and drink in a cozy and traditional setting. While staying at Ruten, we also recommend making a detour to Elgtårnet, a 12 meter high tower built in 2016, located at Ramstjern. It is also possible to stay overnight.

From Ruten the route continues towards and over Jotunheimvegen, which runs between Skåbu and Bygdin. This is an idyllic stretch with lots of beautiful scenery, active farming and panoramic views. Keep an eye out for reindeer grazing in the area. After approx. 43 km you arrive at Haugseter Fjellstue, which is located by Vinstervatn. Take time to enjoy the tranquil and beautiful surroundings, join a fishing trip, and enjoy eating some local mountain dishes. Haugseter also offers some great hiking opportunities.

The last part of the route goes along the Vintstervatn where you will most likely meet cows, sheep and goats who graze freely. Here you get close to the mountain farm life, which is an important part of the Valdres culture. After approx. 12 km, you will meet Highway 51 (National Tourist Road Valdresflye) and turn left towards Bygdin and Beitostølen. Here you will see some spectacular mountains and also have hiking opportunities along the way; such as Synshorn and Bitihorn. Please be aware of slightly heavier traffic along this section.

After approx. 14 km you will arrive at the mountain village of Beitostølen, which has much to offer in terms of dining, shops and activities. The Radisson BLU is the first hotel you will see on your right-hand-side. Here you can eat and sleep well, as well as enjoy a spa treatment or a swim in the pool.

You can also ride this trip in the opposite direction, starting at Beitostølen and finishing at Vinstra.

On the 5/7, 12/7 and 19/7, there is a separate bicycle bus between Oslo, Hønefoss and Beitostølen, which makes it possible to plan this trip by bus one way and taking the train the other way. Making it easier for you to transport your own bike for the trip.
We have also made some ready-made package solutions that correspond to the bicycle bus on either outbound or return leg of your trip. The packages also include accommodation, all meals, luggage transport and pick-up / drop-off service to or from the train station. See more by clicking on the menu “Mjølkevegen offers by bus 2017”.
