This is a shorter version of Mjølkevegen (approx. 95 km) for the more experience cyclists. However it's also the most scenic and includes the most varied sections of the entire route.
You can get to Beitostølen by buss or car, and we recommend staying at the Radisson BLU Mountain Resort Hotel (+47 61 35 30 00). When you book, please inform them that you are cycling the Mjølkevegen route. In the small and friendly town of Beitostølen, you can enjoy a wide variety of activities, restaurants and shops as well as many hiking and cycling possibilities.
From the hotel, cycle towards the center, and turn right at the intersection towards Beito. Follow the Mjølkevegen signs to Slettefjellvegen.
The ascend to up the Slettefjell mountain is spectacular, but challenging - with a hight difference of approx. 500 meters to the top point at 1315 masl. However the view in clear weather is stunning and very rewarding. The descent is steep, and the gravel road can get slippery, so be cautious! We recommend a stop to look at the Sputrefossen waterfall on the right side of the road, before you reach the toll booth..
From the tollboth, turn right, and follow the signs: Liagardsvegen and Vennisvegen towards Tyinkrysset. Continue on the north side of the Vangsmjøsa lake. The lake should be on your left hand side. When you reach the end of Vangsmjøsa, continue up to Tyinkrysset. (Either by following the main road E16, or choose the historical Kongevegen (King's Road) between Øye and Tyinkrysset).
At Tyinkrysset, there is a grocery store, Intersport and Tourist Information as well as places to eat and sleep. If you are cycling this tour with an e-bike, you can charge the battery at the Filefjell Turist Office/Intersport at Tyinkrysset, either inside the store or outside on the wall next to the garbage containers. Also, there are chargers available for Shimano, Bosch og Yamaha.
From Tyinkrysset, cycle in the direction of Tyin and follow the idyllic gravel road (fv 252) along the Tyin lake. From Tyin to Eidsbugarden it's approx. 20 km. At Tyinholmen Lodge (tlf.: +47 61 36 78 88), you can enjoy a cozy and traditional accommodation and a home made meal. The nature surroundings are breathtaking and is definitely an area to explore! The historical boat, M/B Bitihorn, will take you across the Bygdin lake and back to Bygdin. (For info and time schedule: www.jvb.no) From Bygdin, it's approx. 12 km to Beitostølen along road 51.
