Mjølkevegen Scenic route (160 km)

Overview
Details

Mjølkevegen via Bygdin and Eidsbugarden
Vinstra - Jotunheimvegen - Bygdin - Eidsbugarden - Tyinkrysset - Slettefjell - Beitostølen
Accommodation: Ruten Fjellstue - Haugseter Fjellstue - Tyinholmen Fjellstue - Sørre Hemsing - Radisson BLU Mountain Resort Beitostølen

This route can begin at Vinstra, but we recommend booking a pick-up service from the Vinstra train station, to the first accommodation, Ruten Fjellstue. You then continue along the Jotunheimvegen to Haugseter Fjellstue and from there you cycle to the end of Jotunheimvegen and follow road to Bygdin. From there you need to take the M/B Bitihorn accross the Bygdin lake, to Eidsbugarden. (Must be pre-booked and extra cost for bicycles). From Eidsbugarden you cycle to Tyinkrysset, and continue on the E16 towards Vang. Make sure that you cycle on the left side of the Vangsmjøsa lake (and not on the E16). Follow the signs to Sørre Hemsing. From there you need to cycle up the Slettefjell mountain (top point 1315 masl) which is the most demanding section of the Mjølkevegen route, before descenting to Beito and arriving in the mountain village Beitostølen.

This section of Mjølkevegen is both easy and challenging at the same time, but will give you the experience of a lifetime. The combination of cycling and the scenic boat ride with the more than 100 year old M/B Bitihorn across the Bygdin Lake to Eidsbugarden is truly unique. This cycling route passes by many historical and cultural sites as well as natural surroundings that itself will leave you breathless. However, there is also a challenging climb to the top of the Slettefjell mountain that requires a certain level of physical fitness, but the reward is the view from the top and the descent on the other side towards Beitostølen.
