Gol

Mountain climbing at Gol

The trendy climbing spots Farsetberget and Natten offer you challenges and a sense of accomplishment.

Natten, Gol – Rotneim
Natten is a fantastic climbing field located just west of Gol center. The field offers challenges for most people in child-friendly surroundings. To reach the field, follow Rv7 from Gol until you reach Rotheim.

Just after the 60 km/h zone, a gravel road is going up to the right with a sign that says "Hullet" (The Hole). Park along the road before reaching the chain barrier. Follow the gravel road until you see a sign for a path; follow it on the upper side of the garage and further along the power line, and you'll see the field up to the right.

Farsetberget
The cliff is located west of Gol Center. The wall faces east and offers a beautiful view over the valley. The lower sector is vertical to overhanging, while in the upper sector, "Tjuvkjellerveggen," there are steep rock slabs. "Tjuvkjellerveggen" is significantly smoother at the bottom than at the top. Some routes could use a brush. It's nice to climb here in the shade in the summertime after 3:00 PM. Farsetberget deserves more visits than it currently receives. PS, the wall dries slowly after rainfall.

Geology: The cliff consists mostly of dioritic to granitic gneiss.

Access: From Gol: Take Rv52 towards Hemsedal. After approximately 200-300 meters, turn towards Tuppeskogen and follow Tuppeskogvegen to the intersection of Rotneim/Hemsedal. Turn right and drive about 50 meters. Then, take the gravel road to the left (Skaraåsen toll road). Follow this for about 1.5 km. Park in a sharp left turn. Follow the path from the parking sign towards "Skaga." 50 meters after a gate, ascend to the rock.History: The wall was developed in 1997, and the upper part is named "tjuvkjellerveggen." The name comes from a cave beneath the wall, and according to legend, there used to be a thief hiding there with his stolen goods. Terje Halstengård and Åge Bjørnstad were looking for new areas to develop. A few years earlier, they had looked at a steep wall below Farsetberget, but tips from teachers at the folk high school made them take a closer look at Farsetberget. The wall was initially covered with much forest, but Åge and Terje saw the potential. Chainsaw, gasoline, and oil were brought out, and after intense work, the wall appeared new and ready to be drilled. There is also great potential for new routes on nearby walls.

Note: All climbing is at your own risk.

The book "Klatreperler" ("Climbing Pearls"): There are several climbing walls in the vicinity, including Natten in Nesbyen, Sundreberget, and Husarberget in Ål. The book "Klatreperler" contains 20 routes and can be a source of inspiration for both novice and experienced climbers.
