Mountain Scrambling - mountain hike from Longyearbyen - Basecamp Explorer Spitsbergen

You will meet our guide at 09:00am at your hotel.
It’s time to explore the mountains in the vicinity of Longyearbyen. We start the hiking from the old cableway station. After a steep climb, we reach the top of the Plateau Mountain. From the top you will get a spectacular view over the city, the surrounding mountains, Adventfjorden and Isfjorden.
We follow the mountain range and make a longer stop where we enjoy some warm drinks and snacks on the way.
We go back down again by the Longyear glacier, walking the last bit back to town on the road. This trip requires good physical condition.

This hike goes into unrouged terrain without roads and tracks. You should be able to move in varied terrain such as grass slopes, boulders, and moraines safely and independently. Depending on the route, we might even cross the rivers coming from the glacier.
Be prepared for a steep hike in the beginning of the trip, but when we reach the plateau, the view is worth all the effort.

Pack a small backpack (about 20-35 litres) with extra snacks, packed lunch, drinking bottle with water (min. 5 dl) and extra layers of clothes.
Wear steady and water resistance hiking shoes. Put on a comfortable outdoor pants with wool underwear underneath.
On the upper body we recommend wool underwear and windproof jacket. Bring extra layer of wool and a thin down jacket or similar.
You will get warm and sweaty on the hike, and it is often chilly on top.
Remember a warm hat, buff and warm windproof mittens or warm gloves.

Language:
Safety is our top priority during our trips. It is necessary for you to be able to communicate in English or a Scandinavian language if you want to join our excursions. The tour language (English or a Scandinavian language) will be chosen based on the group's language skills
