This is the trip for those who wish to take a different hiking trip in the breath-taking nature in Spitsbergen. Join our experienced guide on a daytrip on the mountains around Longyearbyen
You will meet our guide at 10:00 at your hotel. It’s time to explore the close by mountains of Longyearbyen. We start the hiking from the old cableway station, hiking upwards until we reach the top of Plateau Mountain. From the top you will get a spectacular view over the city, the surrounding mountains, Adventfjorden and Isfjorden. We follow the mountain range and make a longer stop with warm drinks and snack on the way. We go back down again by the Longyear glacier, walking the last bit back to town on the road. This trip is suitable for anyone with normal physical condition.
Pack a daypack (about 20-35 litres) with extra snacks, packed lunch, drinking bottle with water (min. 5 dl) and extra layers of clothes. Wear steady and water resistance hiking shoes. Put on a comfortable outdoor pant with wool underwear underneath. On the upper body we recommend wool underwear and windproof jacket. Bring extra layer of wool and a thin down jacket or similar. You will get warm and sweaty on the hike and it is often chilly on top. Remember a warm hat, buff and warm windproof mittens or warm gloves.
