The history of the Halden Canal extends far back in time. The canal was built in the years 1852-1860, but the locks were furthest destroyed by flooding in 1861. These were rebuilt in 1877. The locks at Ørje and Strømsfoss dates back to 1860. Brekke lock, as we know it today, was completed in 1924.
The history is shown at the Haldenvassdragets Kanalmuseum - located at Ørje locks. On board MS Brekke we focus on using the resources and expertise available locally. The food and drink you get served on board should mainly come from local suppliers. We will go so far as to produce only biodegradable waste, we have the environment and nature with us in mind on our journey through the waterway.
