The Halden Canal is Norway's oldest canal system with a height difference of 40 meters. It has been busy every year since 1877. The canal is a Norwegian nature and cultural pearl, as well as a memorial to the great canal builder Engebret Soot. He was responsible for the design and construction of the Halden Canal. The housewife boy and the village genius from Aurskog who spoke the great engineers opposite, and who proved that his theory was correct by building channels / waterways as transport arteries between the lakes in the Halden watercourse. With MS Brekke the trip goes from Tistedal pier through Lake Femsjøen. Further on to Brekke locks, which is North Europe's highest continuous lock staircase. MS Brekke is lifted up 26.7 meters in this sluice facility. Then the trip goes to Asperen, which crosses into Lake Ara, and at the end of Ara there is another lock in Strømsfoss lock. On this journey one can experience all of what Norwegian nature has to offer. The large lakes, narrow canals, high locks and green grasslands. You get to see small farms, grazing cows and sheep, the open landscape and the large forests - that lean completely into the watercourse. All this forms a great framework around MS Brekke on its quiet journey through the Halden watercourse.
