Seal hunting vessel.
A monument to the tradition of Arctic Sea hunting, the MV Polstjerna (Polar Star) can be seen in a glass house at the waterfront just south of the city centre. You can observe it at any time from the pier. Built in 1949 and with 33 years of seal hunting activity, this ship alone brought back nearly 100,000 seals in total, contributing to the economy of Tromsø. The Arctic Society acquired the ship in 1981, and in 2010 the MV Polstjerna became a part of the collections of The Arctic University Museum of Norway. You can find out more from texts at the pier, or by visiting the Polar Museum.
Visit the vessel and make some Arctic discoveries.
