Nordfjord Stryn

Mt. Holtafjellsryggen | Breogfjell

A great hike that probably is the most alpine experiences on the border between Stryn, Hornindal and Stranda. Stryn has several airy walks with narrow ridges and edges that must be secured with ropes. The narrow edge of Mt. Holtafjellet north of Stryn centre is a great hike that requires securing with rope to get over. The climb is very easy, but here you really get tested if you have a fear of heights.

The hike
We start from Røyrhussætra Mountain Farm. From here you start your trip up a steep forest until we come up on the ridge between Mt. Røyrhusnibba and mt. Holtafjellet. When we reach the first top after about 900 m. we take on climbing equipment and ensures the 250-meter airy ridge. The climb is not difficult, but is so narrow that you at some point must have one foot on each side. When we come up on top, we return down to Tverrdalsskaret and further down to Røyrhussætra. It is also possible to walk towards Stryn and end the tour at Garlid.

Medium to long trip that requires good physical condition and you should be accustomed to the heights.

Time: 7-9 hours
Climbing Degree: Simple but airy
Altitude difference: About 1,000 meters
