Mountain biking is very good exercise, its experiencing nature and enjoying life. The bike and your own strenght bringing you deep into nature and back again. Almost always back again. Sometimes you will experience problems. A flat tire, or a broken chain or gears can stop you flat in your track.
Thats why you, as a mountain biker, need to be able to repair and maintain your bike.
