Narvik War Museum is a modern and new war museum with architectonical and interactive experiences, where Northern Norway's war history is gathered under one roof. July 7th in 2016 the new War Museum opened in brand new premises in the middle of Narvik squares in the new Narvik city center named the 4th corner.
The exciting history from World War II can now be relived in the War Museum in Narvik, which appears in completely new and modern costume in the new Narvik center, the 4th corner. With the entire 1600 square meters spread over three floors, it is not just the battle of Narvik in focus, but a comprehensive presentation of the history of warfare in northern Norway.
The exhibitions are based on the German attack on Narvik and Norway in 1940 and the following five years of war and occupation. The exhibitions also have a section that deals with universal issues related to war, conflict and human rights. A number of genuine historic items from WWII are exhibited. The museum uses design, photos, film, sound and technology to enhance the experience of the exhibition. The texts are printed in Norwegian and English and there is translation available in French, German, Polish and Sami through the use of a smartphone app (EurekApp). The app can be downloaded free of charge from AppStore (iOS) or Google Play (Android).
Adjacent to the War Museum will also run a research center and a documentation center, which provides a unique opportunity to convey the history of warfare in Narvik and Northern Norway in a way it deserves.
