National Library of Norway

The largest centre in Norway for storage and dissemination of Norwegian media

The National Library collects and preserves everything that is published in the Norwegian public, and contributes to increasing interest and knowledge about Norwegian history and cultural heritage. Here you can see scripts, books, films, music, TV and radio clips, posters and small prints. The building from 1914 contains two permanent and two temporary exhibitions, as well as a museum shop and café.

The National Library regularly presents their collection in exhibitions, concerts, lectures, readings and guided tours.

The permanent exhibition Enlightened – Views on a Cultural History shows a selection of items that signify important developments in Norwegian public life. The Map Centre contains the world's largest collection of Nordic and Norwegian maps, where you, among other things, can see the first world map where Norway is drawn.

The library’s shop has greeting cards, posters, bags and books.

Kafe Å is decorated with works by Vigeland, Revold and Krohg and has an outdoor seating area with a view of Bygdøy Allé and Frognerveien.

The library is closed on public holidays.
