Overview

This 11-day wilderness course is all about winter survival, or better: wilderness living in Nordic winter conditions. We live in a cold camp under the open sky and in snow caves or igloos, which we dig or build by ourselves. We move on traditional wooden skis through the untouched winter world and come close to the essentials in life.

At the beginning of the course we get an introduction to skiing on traditional wooden skis, so we can move freely in the snowy wilderness. This is a precondition to build different types of winter camps - cold camp, snow hole and igloo, which we'll live in. Lighting and tending fire in the snow, natural navigation, weather observation, awareness training and dealing the dangers of winter are a natural part of our winter wilderness living skills training. So we learn to poke the ‘inner fire’ and to ally ourselves with the cold. A remote farm house will be accessible as a backup during the whole course.

Season: March

Wilderness Life organizes Wilderness Camps - Nature Connection Training Courses for individuals, groups and businesses. The programs focus on training wilderness living skills, on fostering our natural relations - the connections to nature, ourselves and community and on unfolding our potential as human beings.

Wilderness Life also organizes guided wilderness trips. The hiking, back-country-skiing and canoeing tours offer a safe opportunity for personal wilderness experiences. Some tours are suitable for families with children and youngsters. Customized tours are available.
