Northern lights hunting with snowcat - Hurtigruten Svalbard

  • P.O.Box 548, Spitsbergen

  •  /  km From You

Your guide will take you out of town, away from the light pollution of Longyearbyen, and into the magical polar night. You will drive out over the frozen Adventdalen, with several stops along the way to look for the northern lights.

Join us for a magnificent hunt for the aurora! On our snowcat tour you have a unique possibility to comfortably leave the lights of Longyearbyen behind - while searching for the northern lights.

Take a drive in the polar night
Bring the family along, and join us on an exciting snowcat trip as we hunt for the northern lights. The snowcat is impossible to miss when you see it in town, but as soon as you have exchanged the city for the wilderness, the vehicle will seem very small, and the wilderness very big. An aurora hunt by snowcat is a great way for people of all ages to leave civilisation behind.

Your guide will take you out of town, away from the light pollution of Longyearbyen, and into the magical polar night. You will drive out over the frozen Adventdalen, with several stops along the way to look for the northern lights.

This is the perfect expedition for those who wish to leave the town in a comfortable way. The trip is not physically demanding, and is also suitable for children. Due to the polar night between early November and late January, you have the chance of seeing the aurora at any time of day, also at noon. The lights may seem lighter and more fleeting than those at night, but they are often more colourful, and make for a fascinating sight.

- Transport to and from Radisson Blu Polar Hotel Spitsbergen
- Hot drinks and biscuits
- Tour leader with all necessary safety equipment

Safety is our highest priority, and the guide needs to be able to give directions you understand. To participate on one of our excursions, it is required that you speak and understand English or one of the Scandinavian languages.
