Northern Lights Tour with a Local Guide and Photos
This tour is organized by Arctic Glow. This tour is led by a friendly local guide who knows the region’s nature and culture, together with an experienced driver who ensures a safe and comfortable journey.
We’ll leave Tromsø’s city lights behind and travel to carefully selected locations that offer the best chances to witness the Northern Lights illuminating the night sky. This is a unique opportunity to experience the magical Arctic atmosphere in an authentic and memorable way.
The Experience:
Your journey begins in Tromsø city center, where you’ll meet your guide and driver and board our comfortable Mercedes Sprinter minibus. Based on the latest weather updates and our local knowledge, we head out in search of clear skies—along the coast, into inland valleys, or even across the border to Finland.
The chase for the best conditions is often an adventure in itself, with stops along the way to look for stars breaking through the clouds and to evaluate the latest weather data—adding to the excitement of the evening. Traveling in a minibus with a small group gives us more flexibility and allows us to make decisions on the go, adjusting our route as needed to maximize your chances of seeing the Northern Lights.
Once we’ve found a good location, we settle in and enjoy the evening together in the beautiful Arctic surroundings. To stay warm, you can step inside the minibus to heat up, and thermal suits are provided if needed. When conditions allow, we may set up a cozy bonfire to create warmth and atmosphere.
During the tour, we serve hot drinks and light food or traditional Norwegian snacks to enjoy. When the Northern Lights appear, your guide will take portrait photos of any guest who wishes, using professional camera equipment to capture the moment with the aurora in the background. We also take landscape photos of the Northern Lights and the surrounding scenery, all of which will be shared with you by email the next day.
Throughout the tour, your guide will share stories and scientific insights about the Northern Lights and everyday life in Arctic Norway, adding depth and meaning to the experience. At the end of the night, we return to the same central Tromsø location where we started.
