Get to know the Nordland boat and the northern Norwegian coastal culture at the North Norwegian Boat Museum in Gratangen. Here you will see a unique vessel collection, historical artifacts and traces of everyday life along the coast.

At the North Norwegian Boat Museum in Gratangen, the Nordland boat is in the center. In the old coastal society, the boat was more than a means of transport. It provided food, transported people and goods, bound communities together and was crucial in both work, preparedness and social life.

The museum is based on a boat collection that has roots back to 1928, when Arctic skipper Bertheus Eilivsen exhibited the family's old Nordland boats in the boathouse at Årstein. Later, the collection was preserved and further developed, and today the museum provides a close encounter with an important part of Northern Norway's cultural heritage.

In the exhibitions, you can see Nordland boats of various sizes, from smaller rowing boats to larger boats such as five-oars. You will also gain insight into how the boats were used, how they were built, and how the engine gradually changed the fisheries and coastal communities in the north.

The museum also displays objects related to fishing, hunting and everyday life at sea, such as clothes, Lofoten chest, nets and tools. Gratangen has long traditions in fishing and hunting, and the visit provides a concrete and vivid entrance to the history of people, boats and the coast.
