Situated beside Moster amfi is one of norway’s oldest churches. a saga tells that in 995 olav tryggvason set fire to the pagan temple at Moster and established a church on the same spot. this was presumably a wooden church that in the 1100s was replaced by Moster old Church, which was made of soapstone. the church is an important part of norwegian church history and is today owned by an antiquities association. guided tours of the church are included as a part of the guided tour of Moster amfi.
