Paddling area with over 300 islands and islets, ideal for kayaking, canoeing, and outdoor adventures.

Ogge is a scenic lake district with 70 kilometres of shoreline and more than 300 islands and islets, offering endless opportunities for exploration by kayak or canoe. You can tailor your trip to suit your preferences, from a relaxed day paddle to a multi day expedition with overnight stays under the open sky. The area also offers good fishing opportunities and hiking in varied terrain.

Along the shoreline, you will find several well suited rest areas with simple shelters and designated camping spots for paddlers wishing to stay overnight. The Ogge paddling and hiking map, published by Birkenes Sports Association, provides a clear overview of launch sites, accommodation options, shelters, hiking routes, wildlife, and local cultural history. The map is available for purchase at Birkeland petrol station, local bookshops, and through the Fjellvandring.no online store.

Starting point and parking:

The most commonly used launch site for canoes and kayaks is located at the parking area at Dikesholmane in Birkenes. A purpose built jetty makes launching equipment easy and convenient.

Directions:

From the E18 in Kristiansand, follow County Road 1 (Torridalsveien) and County Road 405 towards Vennesla. Continue through Vennesla and stay on Road 405 to Samkom. Just before Rogåna, turn right onto Road 70/261 towards Birkeland. At the next junction, turn left onto Road 252 towards Lake Ogge. After approximately 6 kilometres, you will find a developed parking area on the left hand side, with a jetty for canoe and kayak launch.

Accommodation and rental:

During the high season, Ogge Gjesteheim offers accommodation, canoe and kayak rental, as well as a small kiosk.
