Givær is Bodø’s westernmost populated outpost. Here, you can relax and charge your batteries.
At the moment, Givær has a population of 19 inhabitants living on the island of Gardsøye together with 3 cows and 5 calves. In summer, the cows reside on the neighbouring islands, so the inhabitants have to row across to milk them. Here you can buy locally produced eggs and milk, the people there are self-sufficient with such things.
Givær is one of the few places along the coast where we still keep eider ducks as a kind of domestic animal. We take good care of the birds, and carefully collect eggs and down.
“In Givær you are only centimetres from the inhabitants’ window panes, but as we know, hospitality is in the islanders’ genes.”
