Connect with reindeer, explore Sami culture, and experience the Arctic night on this magical sledding and overnight adventure!

This tour is conducted by Tromsø Lapland

Meet our friendly herd of 200 reindeer and take part in a traditional sled ride of up to 30 minutes through the serene and snowy landscapes of Northern Norway—an unforgettable way to soak in the magic of the Arctic night sky.

Your evening begins with pickup outside the Radisson Blu Hotel in Tromsø. Look for our guide dressed in a blue Luhkka (traditional Sámi poncho) and a bus marked with a large “SLEDDING” sign. Upon check-in, you’ll receive a bracelet indicating your participation in the sledding activity.

You’ll then enjoy a scenic 45-minute drive through the stunning Northern Norwegian mountains. Once you arrive at our peaceful camp, you’ll be welcomed by a Sámi guide who will give a brief safety introduction before leading you to your first activity.

The group will be split in two—one half begins with the sled ride right away, following a 2.5 km loop surrounded by breathtaking Arctic nature. This is your chance to try one of the oldest modes of transportation and feel the spirit of the Sámi people in the heart of the tundra. Once the first group returns, the second group will head out for their turn.

After sledding, you’ll get the chance to interact with our reindeer up close. Many will even eat straight from your hand—an experience that’s both peaceful and heartwarming.

As night falls, keep your eyes on the sky. According to Sámi tradition, the northern lights make a sound—so find a quiet moment, and maybe you’ll hear it too. While we can’t promise an aurora sighting, our location—far from artificial light and surrounded by pristine wilderness—offers excellent chances to see this mesmerizing natural wonder.

Next, it’s time to warm up and enjoy a traditional Sámi dinner. Gather inside our Gamme (a modern version of a traditional Sámi hut) or Lavvu (a traditional Sámi tent, similar to a tipi) for a hot drink and a delicious serving of Biddos—a hearty stew made with reindeer meat, carrots, and potatoes. A vegan option is also available: vegetable soup with lentils, carrots, broccoli, and green beans.

After dinner, settle in for an engaging cultural session where your Sámi guide will share stories and insights about Sámi traditions, life in the Arctic, and show you traditional handicrafts and clothing. Questions and curiosity are very welcome!

When the evening tour concludes and the rest of the group returns to Tromsø, you'll stay behind for an authentic overnight experience. You'll be guided to your heated tent and introduced to the age-old practice of “hot tent camping,” where you’ll learn how to stay warm and cozy throughout the Arctic night.

Spend the rest of your evening unwinding by the fire in our small Gamme, relaxing in your Lavvu, or stargazing beneath the northern sky.

Overnight stay details: - Each tent accommodates 1–4 guests and is equipped with two queen-size beds separated by a wood-burning stove.
