Pilgrimage walks in Tinn

Following inspiration from the Cinque Terre walks on the Liguria coast in Italy, Silje Sjøtveit in the church in Tinn thought that why not walk from village to village around Tinnsjøen?!

Following inspiration from the Cinque Terre walks on the Liguria coast in Italy, Silje Sjøtveit in the church in Tinn thought that why not walk from village to village around Tinnsjøen ?! And when each village additionally has a beautiful white wooden church, what is more natural than walking from church to church? Austbygde church, Atrå church, Mæl church, Gransherad church and Hovin church are like pearls on a leash around Tinnsjøen.

People have walked to their church for over a thousand years, and here in Tinn we have several old church roads that cross the hills. Parts of these roads are still intact, but many are unfortunately germinated. It has been a bit of work to find old roads and new paths that allow us to get around Tinnsjøen on foot. But with the help of new tractor roads, gravel roads and old trails we have got around completely.
