Plaincrash Skorve

Skorve 2
Skorve, at nearly 4000 ft., is Seljord`s talles mountain. Two airplanes crashed into Skorve in 1944 during WWII. One of the airplanes was an American airplane flying supplies to the resistance. It crashed into Langfjøllhaddin, right below the Gøysen peak. The other airplane was a German transport airplane that crashed into Hestenuten, a bit further north on Skorve`s summit. Many men died in these crashes, and pieces of the wrecks can still be found on the mountain. A monument, made by local artist Ellen Barstad to commemorate the American soldiers who lost their lives, stands outside Granvin Civic Center.
