Pollatinden in Solund rises 541 meters above sea level and offers breathtaking views of Norway’s westernmost islands.

Pollatinden is the second-highest mountain in Solund and one of the most majestic viewpoints in the entire region. Rising 541 metres above sea level, the mountain has earned the honourable nickname: “The Queen of the Island Kingdom”.

The origin of this name is uncertain – perhaps it's because it’s the second-highest peak in the municipality and a worthy queen, or perhaps because Queen Sonja herself has climbed to the summit several times?

Either way, the hike to Pollatinden offers a spectacular nature experience, with panoramic views from the top across Norway’s westernmost islands.

Hiking to Pollatinden

The hike is moderately challenging and suited for those used to hiking in rugged terrain. The trail has a steady incline, with some steep sections and rocky surfaces that may be slippery in wet weather.

The round trip takes about 2 to 3 hours, and the reward at the summit is breathtaking: a vast view of the island seascape, stretching as far as the eye can see.

This is a hike you won’t soon forget – raw, authentic, and West Norwegian nature at its finest.

How to Get to Pollatinden

From Bergen, drive north towards Gulen. From Rutledal ferry quay, take the ferry to Krakhella. From Krakhella, it’s about 20 minutes by car to the trailhead, where parking is available nearby.
