Alf Prøysen
Alf Prøysen (23 July 1914 – 23 November 1970) was a Norwegian author, poet, playwright, songwriter and musician. Prøysen was one of the most important Norwegian cultural personalities in the second half of the 20th century. He was born in Ringsaker and is known for his series of books featuring Mrs.Pepperpot. The house where he was born and raised and its surroundings have now become the Prøysen museum, 'Prøysenhuset' 

Experience the Prøysen Museum
The Prøysen Museum is a national cultural centre built to remember, honour, and spread knowledge of Alf Prøysen's work.  Through a guided tour of the Prøysen Cottage and the exhibition "Livets runde", visitors get an insight into Alf Prøysen's upbringing, life, and work. There are events throughout the year, but there are two main seasons during which the Prøysen Museum is particularly busy. "Christmas at Prøysen” and “Summer at Prøysen” offer a tight-packed program with experiences and together-time through activities, theatre performances, and concerts all generations can enjoy.

All day:
- Take an audio guide with you and learn more about Prøysen's life and writings in the exhibition, "Livets runde"
- Watch a film in Prøysensalen between the media posts
- Outdoor play in Mikkelikskiskogen,
- "Bolla's photo hunt"
- The activity rooms are open all day
- The drawing room, the playroom and Snekker Andersen's workshop. Every Sunday!

Sunday dinner at 13:00 – 16:30. The menu varies from week to week.

CHRISTMAS IN PRØYSEN
On the first three weekends in December, the doors to a Christmas-decorated Prøysenhus are opened with activities for the enjoyment of young and old. Let the children make their own Christmas presents in the Christmas workshop, decorate gingerbread cookies and tie their own door wreath. Gather the family and enjoy the family performance based on Prøysen's Christmas carols and end the afternoon with storytelling in Prøysenstua.

The Christmas program has a lot to offer. Best of all, all the items on the day's program are included in one and the same ticket!

SUMMER IN PRØYSEN
During the festival, Sommer i Prøysen, the entire area around Prøysenhuset is almost transformed into an amusement park, full of experiences and activities for both young and old. The program includes the family show Sirkus Mikkelikski, Barnetimen, "Dørstokken heme", summer concerts, and you can even experience the Christmas atmosphere in the middle of summer. All experiences with a clear reference to Prøysen's life and writings, which ensure that Prøysenhuset's visitors can experience both nostalgia, learning and joyful moments together.

The children's Prøysen
In the four activity rooms – the Carpenter Andersen room, the drawing room, the play room, and the library – children are allowed to be creative and play on their own terms.

The exhibition “Livets runde”
Our understanding of Prøysen keeps expanding.  With his work constantly revealing new depths and dimensions, new doors open in step with our time. The digitalised exhibition “Livets runde” provides a deeper insight into Prøysen through which you will discover the relevance and ingeniousness of his wordsmithery. 

Visit the Home of Prøysen (Prøysenstua)
Get to know Alf Prøysen as a person and an author. Our museum guides will join you in the Prøysen Cottage, Alf Prøysen childhood home, and will talk about his formative years at the croft. The storytelling session also includes songs or readings.

Kafé Julie
Welcome to Kafé Julie!  The café has been named after Alf’s mother as she was the one making sure that Alf always was fed – even though money was tight. Good home-cooked food in generous helpings and at friendly prices. Everything is made from scratch, including bread, cakes, and hot food. If special occasions require special catering, chef Henning Reistadbakken and his team will make this happen. A visit to Kafé Julie adds that little bit extra to the Prøysen experience. Singing at the table is not uncommon!
The café follows the museum’s opening hours. 

Visit Carpenter Andersen’s cottage
Inside the Prøysen Museum, you can visit Carpenter Andersen’s Christmas-decorated home. The cottage is the set of the Christmas classic “Carpenter Andersen Meets Santa Claus”.
