Join Outddoorlife Norway on a preseason hike to the famous Kjerag boulder, wedged in a mountain crevasse, to experience the silence of the mountains before the high season kicks in. This early in the season, you have to expect snow conditions. Your guide knows the way, and will provide you with hiking poles, spikes and snowshoes, if necessary.

Standing on the boulder – which hangs at an altitude of 984 meters –  is reserved for daredevils only. However, the hike itself will provide you with even more breath-taking views on the spectacular Lysefjord. Steep mountain wall rise straight out of the water, towering up to 1000 meters above the fjord.

We’ll start our day trip picking you up in Stavanger (select your preferred meeting point when booking).  After a 2,5 hour drive through a variety of landscapes, including valleys, fjords and mountains, we will start our hike at the socalled Eagle’s Nest, 640 meter above sea level.

The way up will take approximately 3 hours and contains three slopes, interspersed with two valleys.

The last 2 kilometres to the Kjerag boulder are fairly flat. When we encounter the edge of the mountain plateau, panoramic views on the 42 long Lysefjord – flanked by 1000 meter high mountain walls – will unfold. We’ll enjoy a lunch and break at the boulder. The walk back to the parking lot takes approximately 3 hours.

Driving back over the mountain pass to Sirdal, we’ll cross a beautiful moonlike landscape. We’ll stop at Byrkjedalstunet, a candle factory selling Norwegian handmade candles and local art.

This is a demanding 6 hour hike, suitable only for people who are in general good shape, used to exercise and ready for a challenge.
