Rakettnatt - Festival joy in downtown Tromsø!

The Rakettnatt Music and Arts festival is an absolute highlight of the Arctic summer. The festival’s attractive line-up, tempting food stalls and exciting cultural events attract locals as well as visitors from all over the world to Tromsø.

Rakettnatt, Tromsø’s largest music and art festival, takes place every year in late August – right in the heart of Tromsø. It’s the perfect end to the summer in the north. There are many reasons why Rakettnatt has become one of Northern Norway’s most popular festivals in recent years. Yes, we can make that claim. It’s virtually always sold out, when Tromsø is transformed into one big celebration during this late summer weekend. Rakettnatt is renowned for its unique atmosphere. A lot of this may be attributed to an impressive and varied programme featuring artists and bands from different genres playing on several stages. The line-up includes everything from major pop artists to exciting newcomers. Colourful cultural and art experiences add to the festival experience. In other words, the festivalgoers get more than just music. Rakettnatt collaborates with established and new artists to present unique visual and sensory impressions. Festival goers are also tempted by a wide variety of food and drink stalls. Check this summer's line up here! Separate youth day Traditionally, Rakettnatt has lasted two days and the minimum age to enter has been 18. However, the festival has been extended by one day in 2023 and now extends over three full days. The additional day features a separate programme for young people. No alcohol is sold in the festival area on the Youth Day and the minimum age is 16. Find out more. Environment on the agenda Rakettnatt has environmental issues high on the agenda and the festival organisers are making a continuous effort to reduce the festival’s climate footprint. They are collaborating with the likes of the Tromsø food bank to reduce food waste as well as working to cut plastic and non-degradable packaging. There is also a major focus on the reuse and recycling of materials. Festivalgoers are encouraged to recycle waste, and a good system is in place to collect and handle waste during the festival. The festival organisers are collaborating with Remiks Miljøpark to achieve this. Moreover, all equipment is rented from local operators in the Tromsø region and festivalgoers can enjoy local food. These are but a few examples. You can always sleep later! Although the festival arena is full of temptations and the music stretches late into the evening, we recommend visiting the local bars and night spots in the centre of Tromsø. You can sleep later! We recommend visitors to plan their trip to Tromsø well, including booking accommodation well in advance. You can choose between everything from fancy hotels to camping and guesthouses. Our best tip is to add a couple of extra days before or after the festival so you can experience everything Tromsø and the surrounding region have to offer. Welcome to music festival in the north!
