Reindeer Feeding and Chance of Northern Lights
Experience the magic of meeting reindeer up close on this unique Arctic adventure!
This tour is conducted by Tromsø Lapland
Come face-to-face with our herd of friendly reindeer—gentle, curious animals that often come right up to eat from your hand. You’ll have plenty of time to interact, take photos, and simply enjoy the peaceful company of these iconic creatures of the North.
Our camp is located far from the city, in a quiet and pristine natural setting—an ideal spot for northern lights watching. While the aurora can’t be predicted, it’s a truly unforgettable moment when it lights up the sky during your visit!
Your journey begins outside the Radisson Blu Hotel in Tromsø. Look for our welcoming guides dressed in traditional blue Luhkkas (Sami ponchos)—they’ll check you in and direct you to the bus.
From there, you’ll enjoy a scenic 45-minute drive through the breathtaking Northern Norwegian landscape. Once at the camp, a Sami guide will greet you and provide a short safety briefing before leading you to the reindeer enclosure, where the feeding experience begins.
After meeting the reindeer, you’ll warm up inside our cozy Gamme (a modern take on the traditional Sami hut) or Lavvu (a traditional Sami tent similar to a tipi). There, you’ll enjoy a hot drink and a hearty serving of Bidos—a traditional Sami stew made with reindeer meat, potatoes, and carrots. A delicious vegan option is also available: a vegetable soup with lentils, carrots, broccoli, and green beans.
As you relax in the warm atmosphere, your Sami host will share insights into Arctic life, Sami traditions, and cultural heritage, including a display of traditional artifacts and clothing.
Before returning to Tromsø, there will be time for a bathroom break and a visit to our charming souvenir shop—perfect for picking up a little piece of your Arctic experience to take home.
Included: Scenic transfers (45 minutes each way), knowledgeable English-speaking guide, entrance to the fence and feeding the herd at our camp, hot drinks and hot meal (traditional Sámi stew or vegetarian/vegan option), stories about the life and culture of the Sámi people
Please bring: Camera and warm clothes

Level of difficulty: Easy / accessible to families
Meeting time and place: 17:45 at the main entrance of the Radisson Blu Hotel (Sjøgata 7, 9259 Tromsø)
