Reinesfjellet

Overview

The bare rock nirvana Reinesfjellet

This is as much a nature experience as a bike ride. The bare rock mountainsides in Skjomdalen have taken the breath away from many, and this is definitely a place you should visit if you want to experience something out of the ordinary. The trip can be shuttled by car to save energy.

Take the E6 south from Narvik towards Skjomen. Turn left just before Skjombrua (bridge) and follow the road inwards.

The area around Narvik Golf Club can be a good place to leave the car if you intend to shuttle. Continue in Skjomdalveien. At the end of the valley, the road makes a sharp right turn, and you start the climb up the mountainside in Sørdalen. The road traverses steeply upwards. At the top of the climb, you get a parking space on the right.

You can park the car here and set the course up towards Reinnesfjellet. From here on in it is mostly just rocks, so no further description of the trip is necessary. It is recommended to keep to the right the last kilometers towards the top of Reinnesfjellet, as at one point there is a dead-end. From Reinnesfjellet begins a extraordinary descent. This is only recommended for riders with experience of steep cycling, and good cycling skills.

Make careful assessments of conditions and your own skills before setting off downhill. The steepest part lasts a couple of hundred meters before it flattens out towards the tip of Reinneset.
Here you connect to a path that leads all the way down to the road. When you get out on the road, turn right towards Skjomdalen and the car.

Duration: 4-6 Hours from trail start to finish

Length: 16 Km

Area: Skjomen, Narvik

Parking: Sørdalen

Difficulty (1-5): 5
