Lord Edward T. Salvesen from Scotland built his distinctive summer residence a few kilometers west of Mandal in 1901. The area is called Risøbank, and the buildings on the site are located in a state-protected outdoor recreation area with many trails and beaches ready for use. The buildings at Risøbank and the area around them are protected by the Norwegian Directorate for Cultural Heritage (Riksantikvaren), including a gazebo with a lovely view of the sea and a tennis court. The complex was designed by the renowned Scottish architect Sir Robert Lorimer, the same architect who designed the Scottish National War Memorial at Edinburgh Castle.

The Risøbank area and the houses were acquired by the state in two stages, with the area in 1969 and the houses in 1971. In addition to the main building, there is also a tenant's house and the so-called clock house built in the same style. The tenant's house can be rented for accommodation. The greenhouses located on the eastern slope are always open to the public. The Lindesnes Garden Society is responsible for planting and maintaining the gardens there and in the cold frames just outside. You can even sample some of the produce if you wish.

The park area at Risøbank is excellent for picnics and outings, and Lordens Beach is a popular destination for both young and old.

During the summer season, from around Midsummer to the first week of August, there is a summer cafe at Risøbank. It is open every day from 11:00 AM to 5:00 PM. There is often a summer exhibition on the second floor of the main building, which can enhance your visit.

Risøbank can be rented for weddings and other events, as well as meetings, conferences, and other gatherings. Take a look at the Risøbank website for more information.
