Overview

Rock carvings offer a unique glimpse of a long-lost culture.

Gjerpen in Skien is home to several sites containing Bronze Age carvings such as Løberg, Wattenberg, Bergheim, Fossum, Mæla and Venstøp.

The Fossum site, thougth to be around 2800 year old, was among the first rock carvings discovered in Norway. It shows ships, soles of the feet and sun sumbols from the Bronze Age. A ramp and light projectors have been installed, producing stunning effects.

The Bergheim site, comprises figures of ships, people, animals and bowl hollows.

The Løberg site is on private land, is approx. 3000 years old and depicts 40 figures including ship, sun symbols, horses and riders, animals and soles of the feet.
