Rostad Farm in Inderøy is a historical gem that carries with it a rich history.
Built in 1787 and renovated in the 1860s, Rostad Gård features several rooms preserved in their original state with period furniture.
In 1829, Ole Richter was born at Rostad Farm. He would later become a prominent figure in Norwegian politics, serving as the Norwegian Prime Minister in Stockholm from 1884 to 1888, during the union period with Sweden. However, his life was marked by dramatic events that ultimately led to his tragic death in 1888.
The main building at Rostad Gård still offers a glimpse of the atmosphere Ole Richter created on the farm in the 1870s, through his political activities, interactions with other politicians, and social events.
After Ole Richter's death, Rostad was converted into an orphanage run by Ebba Astrup, who continued to care for the place's history and significance. Since the 1960s, it has been a youth home, and today it is owned by Crux Stiftelsen Rostad.
Founded in 2006, the Friends of Rostad aim to contribute to the development and dissemination of knowledge about Rostad, Ole Richter, and Ebba Astrup, and to interpret the relevance of history in the present and future. The history associated with Rostad is not only local but also has national and Nordic significance, reminding us of the importance of understanding our past to shape our future.
Mausoleum
At Rostad, there stands a remarkable mausoleum erected by Ole Richter's fiancée, Ebba Astrup, in 1907 in memory of their great love. This monument symbolises the eternal love that transcends time and death. Additionally, there is a burial mound with an obelisk where Prime Minister Ole Richter and his English wife rest, alongside the urn of Ebba Astrup.
In 2007, during restoration work, discoveries of national historical significance were made in the mausoleum's ceiling, further enriching the history and significance of this place.
Summer Exhibition
In July, the summer exhibition "Love is Strong as Death" explores themes of love, politics, and betrayal, care for vagrant children, and the Mausoleum.
Rostadrunden - The hiking trail
