Round trip with expressboat and public bus from Ålesund to Runde bird island

This tour by fast-speed ferry and bus takes you from Ålesund via Hareid and Fosnavåg to the bird island of Runde. The island is a popular destination all year round, but is spectacular in the summer due to its teeming bird-life.
The island is a popular destination year-round but is particularly exciting in summer due to its thriving birdlife. Runde is located at the outermost edge of the ocean and has around 150 permanent residents.
About the bird island RundeDuring the breeding season, approximately 100,000 seabirds inhabit the island, most of them nesting on the steep bird cliffs. Around 80 species are confirmed breeders, and over 300 species have been recorded on Runde. The Runde Bird Cliffs are Norway’s southernmost and also the most species-rich seabird site in the country.
Bird activity is present all year round. In winter, you can observe the toughest species that thrive in the harsh and wild climate. You can also see the bird colonies by hiking up the cliffs along marked trails. Please note that strict conservation rules are in place due to the island’s vulnerable ecosystem.
