Learn to row a færing – the traditional wayYou’ll have the chance to learn the art of rowing a færing – an iconic, handcrafted wooden boat that has been part of Western Norway’s landscape for generations. With guidance from an experienced local, you’ll learn the technique, the history, and the harmony between boat and rower. If you already know how to row, you can rent the boat and set off on your own peaceful journey.
Two ways to experience the færing:With a guide:
A local rowing enthusiast takes you on a two-hour journey across the water. You’ll receive instruction in traditional rowing, hear stories from the fjord, and feel your pulse slow in rhythm with the oars.
Price: NOK 950 per hour (minimum 2 hours)
Rent the boat on your own:If you already know how to row and want to shape your own experience, rent the færing for half a day and explore the waters at your own pace.
Price: NOK 1000 for 4 hours (two pairs of oars)
About the boatThis is no ordinary boat. It’s a traditionally built færing, crafted by hand using time-honoured techniques and deep respect for both materials and coastal culture. The boat is light, yet sturdy – ideal for both lake and fjord.
