Ryvingen Lighthouse Station

Ryvingen Lighthouse is located on an island 7 km southeast of Mandal. In addition to being the most visible landmark for maritime traffic passing the southern tip of Norway, Ryvingen, together with Hatholmen Lighthouse and the light "Bestemor" at Sjøsanden, forms the entry light system for Mandal’s harbors.

Experience sunsets, starry skies, and fresh sea air — sleep in a historic lighthouse and feel the atmosphere of the keeper's life. The island offers excellent hiking terrain – explore on foot and swim from the smooth coastal rocks. It’s a unique experience for everyone – ideal for families, friends, couples, and solo travelers looking for something different.

The preservation, operation, and rental of the lighthouse buildings are managed by Ryvingens Venner (“Friends of Ryvingen”), a volunteer organization working to protect and make the station accessible to the public. All maintenance is carried out on a voluntary basis. Maintaining the buildings is costly, and the primary source of income for Ryvingen Lighthouse is rental revenue. Electricity is included in the rent, but we kindly ask guests to limit both electricity and water use.

There are 25 beds divided between 5 rooms in the main building and a separate annex called Slettingen. The boathouse Sjøbua can be rented for events and accommodates about 35 people.

A wheelchair lift is available at the harbor but must be arranged in advance.

Ryvingens Venner can transport guests to the island aboard the traditional wooden boat Odin, which must normally be booked a day in advance. You are also welcome to arrive by your own boat and dock at Ryvingen!
