Søstrene Hagelin

Søstrene Hagelin is a traditional well known fish food store in Bergen. They serve affordable lunch and dinner dishes. Take away or eat inside.
Here, you can buy fish cakes, fish soup, fish pudding, plukkfisk (a type of fish stew), bacalao, fish gratin, as well as fish burgers and wraps. They also offer Hagelin's favorites, which provide samples of their best-selling dishes. You can take your food home or eat in-store, where they have space for 32 guests. In the summer, they sometimes have a small trolley in front of the shop, where you can easily buy hot soup and warm fish cakes to eat on the go.
The story of Søstrene Hagelin:
Søstrene Hagelin was founded in 1929 by two sisters, Elna and Gudrun Hagelin, who moved to Bergen from Nedre Stedje Gård in Sogndal. In Bergen, they wanted to realize a dream: to open a store selling homemade fish food. Søstrene Hagelin opened their store, and the fish food became a great success.
The fish cakes were considered so good that high-ranking embassy staff in Paris received shipments of fish cakes directly from Bergen once a week. King Olav loved Søstrene Hagelin's fish food so much that he had fish cakes delivered to Gamlehaugen whenever he was in Bergen.
The sisters’ fish food is made using the exact same recipes as in 1929, and the main ingridient is always fresh haddock fillet. The two sisters will always be remembered for their delightful homemade fish food and are now known far beyond the city's borders.
Søstrene Hagelin is conveniently located just a one-minute walk from the Tourist Information Center by the Fish Market in the heart of Bergen.
